Singer & Songwriter

Alina Chelaru, known to fans as IAMAlina, is an enigmatic singer/songwriter who combines a soulful energy with a fresh eccentricity and engaging truth. Her music delivers a captivating philosophy on the everyday sentiments we’ve come to expect in pop songs, while her vast range of styles and depth of emotion reveal a complexity and maturity rarely seen.

Alina’s musical inspirations can be attributed to her own life’s journey. She grew up a free spirit in a communist Romania, often feeling caged under a militant father who, while supporting her dream of pursuing music, imposed unto her the demands of a rigid classical music education.

She began playing the piano and singing ballads at age 13, steadily becoming a recognized figure while gradually establishing herself in the Romanian and Italian pop music markets. She’s opened for such major headliners such as Angela Similea. In 2006, she was offered a three-year scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music but had to decline this amazing opportunity when she was denied legal access into the US.

Unfettered by countless disappointments and roadblocks, Alina has catapulted her career through her own  tireless efforts. Investing everything she had, and with no label to back her, she pulled together a team of musicians, publicists, and promoters to produce the independent self-titled album Alina, which she supported with a concert tour and mass promotion throughout Europe.

Her social media presence exploded, and her instant success attracted the attention of numerous television & radio networks and multiple publications including Il Tempo, Rai Uno, TVR Intl., and Il Fatto Quotidiano who titled their feature article, The Madonna of Romania. In addition, she was sought to engage in collaborative works with top Italian DJs Roberto Molinaro and Luigi Rocca. TV producer and author Doru Ionescu featured Alina in his recently published

book, Stories with Songs - 100 Romanians and Their Adventures Music.

Setting her sights on the North American market, she’s made numerous appearances at club venues in California, including the famous House of Blues in LA. In an industry wrought with casualties, IAMAlina stands out as an all encompassing musical force and an inspiration to those who dare to dream big, who have the tenacity to make it happen, and the talent to propel the dreams.
