This letter submitted to democratic leaders in congress and federal democratic advisors was well received, as evidenced by the flood of positive responses in support of Mr. Krasner's efforts.
I have a mess to clean up and I need your help.
I’m Stephen Krasner, Democratic candidate for Newburgh Town Supervisor in November of 2011, and instead of telling you all the reasons you should help me win the next election, I’ll give you a glimpse of what might happen if you don’t.
More of Newburgh’s hardworking police officers could be laid off, and vacancies left unfilled. Nothing will be done to assure the continued safety of our public service workers. Employee morale will continue to drop. The prevalent “good old boys’ club” will keep high five-ing their way to further acts of corruption, nepotism, and blatant disgrace behind the walls of Town Hall. Bookkeeping will remain questionable, with residents’ tax dollars carelessly wasted. Accountability and transparency will remain nothing more than a good idea.
As we know all too well, Bell, California is not the only American town with shameful secrets.
My work has already started. Even in defeat after the 2009 election, I’ve persevered and managed to push through some positive changes, but they will be eradicated in favor of the status quo if the bad guys win again.
I came so very close to winning even as a total newcomer. Just a few more weeks of campaigning could have made all the difference in the outcome. Today, my supporters are even more numerous, and are as passionate as I am about cleaning up Town Hall. I’m just a few strides from the finish line, but I can’t take a chance on the outcome. I need to be sure.
I believe your endorsement of my campaign will secure a win. Your ultimate show of support, in the form of a public appearance at a community event and or fundraiser on my behalf will excite and energize this town, and bring back some of the vibrancy, the joie-de-vivre and the hope that the Town of Newburgh needs and deserves.
I don’t expect you to take me at face value. Instead, I urge you to read my bio, visit my website, and review some of the attached press-releases. See what I’ve done and what I stand for. Then, I believe I will have earned your support. I’m confident your passion will be aroused, and I hope you’ll be compelled to reach out and help me do what is right: clean-up the mess and provide the kind of governance our town really needs.
Yes, this is definitely a cry for help, and please know that a small gesture on your part will make a big difference.
I’ll be in touch again, because I’ve never achieved anything by waiting. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or to discuss a tentative appearance for next year.
